Bookish named a Heart of the West Finalist!

My New Adult manuscript, BOOKISH, has been nominated as a finalist in the Utah RWA’s Heart of the West Writing Contest. The entry has been sent to final judge Judith Engracia of Liza Dawson Associates Literary Agency for scoring. Fingers crossed that my quirky main character, Violet, wins Judith over! Placement will be announced at Utah RWA’s annual conference in Park City on October 12th.

Beyond the Fire named a Molly Finalist!

I’ve worked hard on the rewrite of my 2012 GH manuscript, and I entered it in the 2013 Molly Contest (sponsored by the HODRW) as a litmus test for sweeping changes made to the initial chapters. How exciting that my updates were well-received in two rounds of blind judging! The third & final round for my category will be judged by editor Debby Gilbert at SoulMate Publishing, and winners will be announced at the HODRW conference on October 5th.

Kira Brady’s newest book is out!

Like dragons? Like shape shifters? Like damn fine writing? Hearts of Shadow, my friend Kira Brady’s second book in the Deadglass Trilogy, was released this month. Publishers Weekly says “Brady’s masterful world-building transports the reader to a grim but compelling future, seamlessly interweaving the real and the beautifully imagined.” I’m reading Hearts of Shadow right now, and it’s a spectacular follow up to Hearts of Darkness. Visit Kira’s website to read an excerpt and purchase a copy!

2013 Golden Heart® Finalists announced

Last year at this time, I sat shell-shocked in my mother-in-law’s kitchen when I first heard that my manuscript was a finalist in the RWA’s prestigious Golden Heart® contest. This year, many of my fellow 2012 finalists have done it again. AGAIN, I say! I’m so impressed with the caliber of writing among the finalists, and ever-amazed and appreciative of the camaraderie that grows within the group in the few months between announcement of the finalists and the RWA’s annual summer conference. What an amazing bunch of writers. Check out this year’s GH finalists, as well as the nominees for the RITA Award.
