Beyond the Fire wins the 2014 Golden Heart® Award!

I’m over the moon happy to announce that I won the Romance Writers of America® 2014 Golden Heart® Award in the Paranormal Romance category. My manuscript Beyond the Fire has been a true labor of love; ninety-four thousand words worth of love, magic, history and suspense, in fact. Here’s hoping my Golden Heart luck follows me into the next stage of my publishing journey, and that you can find Beyond the Fire at a bookstore or e-retailer in the near future!

I’m interviewed on USA Today’s HEA Blog!

Michelle Monkou is introducing this year’s Golden Heart Finalists to her Happily Ever After blog family. Please click on over to visit with me and fellow finalists Asa Maria Bradley and Sheri Humphreys!

My interview on The Ruby-Slippered Sisterhood

Ahhh, the wonderful “Rubies”. The 2009 Golden Heart Finalists have created the most awesome, inspiring, engaging blog for romance writers and readers! You must check them out, and not just because today is the day they interview me in their spotlight of this year’s Golden Heart Finalists. :)

Beyond the Fire is a 2014 Golden Heart® Finalist!

Me. Stoked. Times two. The RWA® Golden Heart® contest aims “to promote excellence in the romance genre by recognizing outstanding manuscripts” written by unpublished writers. Each entry is rated by a  group of the toughest reviewers in my genre:  Other romance writers. Everyone says the Golden Heart is like the Oscars for those of us pursuing publication, and I agree. I was a finalist in 2012 when the award went to the lovely and funny Lorenda Christensen (check out her novels Never Deal with Dragons and Dancing with Dragons!). Anyhoo. I *completely* rewrote my manuscript and gave it another go. What do you know? Readers liked this one, too. Winners will be announced in late July at the RWA National Conference.

Beyond the Fire advances to Round 2 of the ABNA!

Amazon.com accepts 10,000 submissions for their annual Breakthrough Novel contest. After some whittling down at the pitch stage, roughly 2,000 writers advance to the second round. I get a distinct “whew!” feeling when I type that — seriously — because writing the pitch is my personal Mount Everest, and have I mentioned how woefully out of shape I am?! Amazon will announce who’s advancing to the quarter finals in mid-April, and I’ve crossed all things that can be crossed for my gal Kendra (heroine in Beyond the Fire).

Two 1st place finishes in the Golden Rose writing contest!

I just heard that my New Adult manuscript, Bookish, placed first in its category of the 2013 Golden Rose writing contest sponsored by the Portland (Rose City) chapter of the RWA. And just as I swallowed that bit of good news, I learned that Beyond the Fire won the contest’s Paranormal category. Let me take a moment to say to all in Internetlandia:  The first round judges at the Rose City RWA are tough, amazing critics. Their reads of both submissions provided much food for thought at revision time and informed a few plot choices later in the books. That’s the real win in this often solitary endeavor; sound, honest critiques are a godsend!

Bookish takes 1st Place Overall in the HOW Contest!

My New Adult mystery won the YA/NA category of the Utah RWA’s Heart of the West contest, and (AND!) it took overall first place. That means it scored best against all of the entries from both published & unpublished writers across all of the contest’s sub genres. Color me thrilled! Final Round Judge Judith Engracia from the Liza Dawson Agency requested the full manuscript, so I’ve been working like mad to finish my revisions…in between happy dances, that is. =D

I’m a double finalist in the Golden Rose contest!

I entered two manuscripts in the Rose City Romance Writer’s annual Golden Rose contest, and BOTH of them are going on to the second round of judging. My updated Paranormal (BEYOND THE FIRE) is now in the hands of Amy Boggs at the Donald Maas Agency, and my New Adult mystery (BOOKISH) will be reviewed by Theresa M. Cole at Entangled Publishing. I’m on pins & needles until results are announced December 15th!

Beyond the Fire wins The Molly!

My paranormal manuscript placed first in its category of the 2013 Molly Contest for unpublished authors, and main character Kendra was a runner-up in the related Unsinkable Heroine contest. On top of all that goodness, the category’s final judge requested a look at the full manuscript. It’s always exciting when an agent, editor or publisher wants to keep reading!

My girl Kendra is up for the “Unsinkable Heroine” Award!

Kendra Harrison, the main character in my manuscript BEYOND THE FIRE, has been nominated for the HODRW’s Unsinkable Heroine Award. This award is separate from the regular scoring for the Molly Contest. The heroine in each submission was rated for Spunk, Imagination, Creativity and…well, Unsinkability. Kendra’s been a labor of love for me, and I already think of her as quite the shiznit when it comes to bravery, but this is a special honor!
